L1 TRAINING

Training is facilitated by Anna Wentsch of Western Bay Wildlife Trust.

Monitoring activities are done both in the day and late at night between 9pm and midnight.

MAHI

Involves visiting burrows on the base track, checking in on the kororā and their chicks.

Rock hopping is essential, requiring agility and balance. Monitors will provide regular surveillance of burrows and reporting, recording basic information about bird welfare.

Monitors report on bird presence, whether they’re microchipped or not, if there are any eggs or chicks, their positioning in the burrow, and any visible activity.

Reporting is recorded through an app and device provided by WBWT, and regulated by Anna Wentsch.
